How sportsbook odds work
Decimal, fractional and American odds express the same underlying price in different formats. Decimal odds show the total return including the original stake. For example, decimal odds of 2.00 imply a 50% probability before accounting for operator margin.
A sportsbook builds margin into a market by pricing all possible outcomes so their combined implied probabilities exceed 100%. Comparing the exact same selection across operators can reveal a price difference, but it cannot remove uncertainty or guarantee a winning result.
Pre-match and live betting
Pre-match markets are offered before an event starts. Live markets update while play is underway and may be suspended during significant moments. A displayed live price can change or disappear before a bet is accepted, and broadcasts may run behind the operator’s data feed.
Live betting encourages faster repeat decisions. Check the final accepted odds and stake in the bet slip, slow the pace and avoid using a new bet to chase a previous result.
Esports betting
Esports markets can cover a full match, individual map, round, tournament or player performance. Similar team names, academy rosters and rapidly changing tournament formats make event identification especially important.
Check whether a market settles on maps played, the official match result or a tournament ruling. Rules for substitutions, forfeits, disconnections, format changes and postponed matches can differ by sportsbook.
